The Falkland Islands is a Category 2 register which means it is restricted to merchant vessels not more than 150 tons, fishing vessels and pleasure vessels. However, owners or charterers who have a connection with the Falkland Islands can also be allowed to register. Benefits to joining the Falkland Islands include a reduction in harbour dues. For Falkland Island based companies it is a financial advantage to flag in. All applications to register require the approval of the Governor.
