At 11am (BST) today, the world will fall silent in memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in World War II to mark the 75th anniversary of its ending.
Amongst those who died were 30,248 from the Merchant Navy. We should never forget their sacrifice nor the work of all those who served - about 185,000 sailors from geographically far-flung places, risking their lives to keep vital supply lines going.
It's all the more important to remember those who served in the crisis of war at a time when seafarers are still providing vital support to the world in the biggest peacetime crisis of its kind. Remember the dead, honour the living.
'At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.'
