A marine surveyor with more than 35 years’ experience in the maritime industry has been appointed to oversee regulation in Bermuda.
Chris Boreham has been appointed as the Chief Marine Surveyor to the Bermuda Shipping and Maritime Authority.
He had previously worked at BSMA as a senior marine surveyor and before that with the Maritime & Coastguard Agency.
His role will see him planning, directing and managing technical services provided by BSMA in line with legislation, both Bermuda and that of the United Kingdom, as well as international shipping regulations.
He’ll also manage the provision of marine survey services to ships either registered with or coming onto the Bermuda registry, and will be managing the team of marine surveyors.
Chris Boreham said: ‘I’m really looking forward to taking on this role. I’ve got a terrific team of surveyors to work with as we look towards maintaining and improving the maritime standards of the BSMA. Bermuda and the Red Ensign Group demand and expect high standards of our operators and we work with them to achieve that.
Francis Richardson, chief executive of the Bermuda Shipping and Maritime Authority, said: ‘We’re delighted that Chris is taking on this role. His technical knowledge and maritime industry experience augmented with an already well-established team of marine surveyors will enable the BSMA to go from strength to strength.’
