Anyone operating a small commercial vessel in the Caribbean region needs to make sure they work to the Code of Safety for Small Commercial Vessels for that area.
While most people are aware of the Red Ensign Group’s Yacht Code, there are other regulatory documents across the group including this one specific for the region.
The Code is designed to prescribe standards of construction and emergency equipment for small commercial vessels operating in the Caribbean region.
It’s based on the United States Coast Guard Code of Federal Regulations 46 Sub-Chapter T (certification of small passenger vessels), which are regarded as equivalent to International Maritime Organisation Convention requirements for such vessels, Sub-Chapter C (Uninspected vessels) and the United Kingdom Code of Practice for the Safety of Small Workboats and Pilot Boats.
It can be downloaded from the Red Ensign Group publications page.
