The work of coastal states in making sure they are prepared for all eventuality also comes under the spotlight of the Red Ensign Group Conference which meets next week in the Falkland Islands.
As coastal states, members of the Red Ensign Group need to make sure that what they do meets international standards.
Kim Cutler from the Government of Anguilla says that the support that everyone in the REG gets from each other matters at these times.
‘We have breathtakingly beautiful coastlines in Anguilla. But with that beauty comes responsibility: a responsibility for maritime safety and also to protect our coasts from pollution threats.
'Our colleagues who are also friends across the Red Ensign Group have supported and helped us to meet some of the challenges of fulfilling that responsibility.’
